How Images Help With Social Media and SEO

The trend of social media is growing each passing day, but what remains the cause? Social media is all about engaging graphics and appealing pictures. This depicts that images can make the content interesting as it enhances content understanding. In contrast, if you have a website, images are even more vital as they improve your SEO results.

The images increase the accessibility and user engagement which are the two pillars that are holding SEO together. These metrics are encouraging people to optimise image SEO, but multiple factors need to be taken care of. In this article, we have rounded up several practices that shall help you optimise the website, rank it higher, and enhance the SEO results.

Image Tools

As we have already mentioned the importance of using the images, it is equally important to use the right images that match the content and put you on track of success. The best part is to use your own images, and if you have the skills to create one, it is the best option out there. To create the images, you can use Google Images, Flickr, iStock photos, and Canva.

Compression & Formatting

Whenever you need to upload the images on the website, you need to decide the best possible format. The number of formats is never-ending as they include PNG, JPEG, and GIF. Every image format has different pros and cons related to quality, file size, and compressions. In this section, we have added information about these three basic formats;

  • JPEG – These are coloured images and make smaller sizes. But they tend to lose data compression, and in return, the quality can be affected
  • GIF – This image format is designed with indexed colour and graphics an use the HTML version for image creation. Their size is, however large and if your images have more than 256 colours, it’s not going to benefit you.
  • PNG – This image format can be downloaded or images can be edited in this from Adobe Photoshop and are commonly used for small pictures and logos. But these formats aren’t recommended for animations.

Image Scaling

When you have a website, the loading time will directly impact your website’s SEO results. For instance, if you are using large images and if its size is big, the loading time will increase and it can pose a negative impact on your website’s ranking. According to stats, 7% of the conversion can be lost if there is a delay in page loading.  Many people think that image size is only about height and width, but it focuses on quality as well. While uploading the picture, make sure the actual size and display size is similar because larger images will impact the ranking.

Sitemaps

When you use the image sitemaps, it will show that you have galleries based on JavaScript and Google will be given a signal that images are available on the website, helping you rank higher in the search results.  It is better to create the XML sitemap separately for the images and while you do so, do not forget to add caption, title, and location in the additional information.
